About the artist
A two-part exhibition, at Proyecto AMIL and the Lima Art Museum-MALI.

Known for his subtle and intimate works, the American artist Richard Tuttle (b. 1941) has been a highly influential figure on the international art scene for over four decades. Through the use of everyday materials, Tuttle creates sophisticated, poetically charged structures that elude any attempt at historical or stylistic categorization. Co-titled "To the Night Sky of Lima" and organized in close collaboration with the artist, this two-part exhibition includes a look at his output since the 1970s, as well as new works inspired by his recent visit to Peru.

Since his first solo exhibition at the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York in 1965, Richard Tuttle's work has been characterized by its challenge to artistic conventions and categories. Although primarily known as a sculptor, his vast body of abstract work encompasses media as diverse as drawing, painting, collage, and design. His early works are in the wake of the post-minimalism that dominated the American scene in the 1970s, but the artist's entire body of work has arguably followed a unique path.
