John Claude White, a colonial administrator and photography enthusiast, lived and worked for over twenty years in the Himalayas - between 1883 and 1908 - in the service of the British Empire. He photographed everything around him, from panoramas of the immense Tibetan landscape to the mountains and glaciers of Sikkim, as well as monasteries and portraits of the court of the King of Bhutan and the monks of Lhasa. In this work, the authors pay tribute to a man whose legacy is a gift to lovers of travel and expedition photography.
