The protagonist of this story recounts in her first person that she has gone seventeen days and seventeen nights without sleep. She doesn't even feel drowsy. Her mind remains very clear, even clearer than usual. She has an appetite, her body is functioning well, and she doesn't feel tired at all. But neither her husband nor her son realize what's happening, and she doesn't tell them anything so they won't force her to go to the hospital. During the day, she feigns normalcy, and spends her nights, while they sleep peacefully, reading voraciously or driving aimlessly around the city. She can't make sense of what's happening to her, nor explain the shadows that at some point begin to surround her.
